Email Settings and Outlook Express Setup Instructions

The email settings below are for those who wish to use an email program, such as Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora, IncrediMail, or Mozilla Thunderbird to access their email accounts. As an alternative, all customers can send and receive email right from our web site, by logging in with their email addresses and passwords at the top, left corner of our Members Page.

Because Outlook Express is included with all recent versions of Windows, and because it is the most widely used email program, we provide instructions for Outlook Express below. Of course, you may use a different email program if you like. The settings to be entered into all email programs are the same (you can find them below), and any email program you have obtained should include instructions for entering the email settings - either in the built-in "help files" or at the web site where you downloaded the program. If you need help configuring your email account with your email program, please contact us.

The settings to be entered into Outlook Express (or any email program) are as follows...

EMAIL SETTINGS:

  • Email Address = your email address

  • Incoming (POP) Mail Server = pop.vtrocket.com

  • Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server = smtp.vtrocket.com

  • Account Name (User Name)= your entire email address

  • Email Password = your email password

Example:

  • Email Address = johndoe@vtrocket.com

  • Incoming (POP) Mail Server = pop.vtrocket.com

  • Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server = smtp.vtrocket.com

  • Account Name (User Name)= johndoe@vtrocket.com

OUTLOOK EXPRESS SETUP INSTRUCTIONS:

Open Outlook Express by double-clicking the icon on your Windows desktop screen that looks like the one to the left. If you don't see the icon, click the Start button at the bottom, left corner of your screen, go up to Programs, then click Outlook Express.

STEP 1:  If the first thing you see is the Internet Connection Wizard (see Step 4), then skip to Step 4. Otherwise, if any message boxes pop up, close them and proceed to Step 2.

STEP 2:  At the top of the Outlook Express screen, click Tools, then click Accounts.

STEP 3:  Click the Mail tab, then the Add button, then click Mail.

STEP 4:  In the Display name box, enter your name as you want it to appear to the recipient. This is not your email address, but your name or nickname, which people will see when you send email messages. Click the Next button at the bottom.

STEP 5:  Enter your Email Address, as listed in your Welcome Message. In some versions of Outlook Express, you will need to select, "I already have an email address..." before you can enter the email address. Click Next.

STEP 6:  Enter the mail server information. The first entry should be POP3, as displayed below. The Incoming Mail Server is pop.vtrocket.com. The Outgoing Mail Server is smtp.vtrocket.com. Click Next.

STEP 7:  Make sure Logon using: is selected and enter your email Account Name and your email Password. Your email Account Name is exactly the same as your email address. In some versions of Outlook Express, you can select "Remember password". You might also have the option to "Log on using secure password...", but do NOT select that option. Click Next.

Note: your password will show asterisks (*). Be sure to enter your password correctly.

In recent versions of Outlook Express, this part of the setup is now complete. Click the Finish button, then click here to complete the email account setup by configuring Outlook Express for SMTP authentication. In older versions, you will need to proceed with the steps below...

STEP 8:  Enter a "mail account name". This can be anything you want. If you are setting up multiple email accounts you will want to give each account a unique name. Click Next.

STEP 9:  Select Connect using my phone line. Click Next.

STEP 10:  Select Use an existing dial up networking connection and make sure the connection name is "Access the Net" (or another name you gave to our connection). Click Next.

STEP 11:  Click Finish to save your settings.

You are now ready to receive email using Outlook Express. In order to complete the email account setup, click here to configure Outlook Express for sending mail using SMTP authentication.
